The Christmas Before my daughter, Elaine’s 7th Birthday the news was all about the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. My husband, Ed, and I are avid readers and in the hope we would instill this in our children we purchased the first three books as part of her Christmas Gifts. She wasn’t very excited about receiving them at first but when she realized it meant stories before bed every night, she quickly warmed up to the idea.

Ed and I took turns reading the first book but began to quibble over whose turn it was as we became enchanted by the story of Harry and his adventures in the Wizarding World, at some point we even had 3 bookmarks in Sorcerer’s Stone. Elaine and I found a common interest in Rowling’s books and would discuss where we thought she would take the next book.

Once Elaine, 9, finished Goblet of Fire she was desperate for more, so Ed and I turned her to RR Tolken’s Hobbit/Lord of the Rings series. She quickly became interested in these as well as other “chapter” books and has become the top reader in her class. She blows all of the standardized tests out of the water and her imagination is amazing.

This website is a result of all of these things, our love of Harry Potter and of reading. If you are already a fan I hope you enjoy the site and it’s links. If you are not a fan I hope this encourages you to pick one of Rowling’s books and join the thousands of other people young and old alike who have discovered something wonderful in her writing.
