The Poppy
A small flower in an Oriental garden
The Opium Poppy
The revolutions of Europe and America
The growing conscience of Man
The Romantic Movement is contributed to
I contribute it to you
Oh, Opium Poppy
The flowers bloom so incredibly high
The poets' minds seem to float by
How can they reflect the cause of liberty?
When swirling colors are all they see?
Why didn't these doped-up artists draw instead?
This drug inspired poetry makes my eyelids feel like lead
(Spring 1987, Jr. English class, MHS)

"No Nukes"
"No Nukes," "No Nukes," "No Nukes"
Is this the last antigovernment call?
"No Nukes," that's all
From Chernobyl To MX missiles mobile
Whatever happened to welfare Insurance rates, White/Black state and
Medicare?
Nope... its either "No Nukes" or "Save the Whales"
Not even a protest against used-car sales
There's no originality left
Well I say "Nuke the Whales"
"Nuke the Whales," "Nuke the Whales," "Nuke the Whales"
Nuke 'em till they glow from their big round heads
To their long flat tails
"Save the Nukes," "Nuke the Whales"
(Fall 1987, Senior Year, MHS)
