Devil's Tower on my top-shelf line

I’m fond of the series of Close Encounters of the Third Kind “This means something” scenes.  I especially liked the giant clay model of Devil’s Tower on Roy’s train set.  So when I resurrected my toy trains, I knew I would also need a “This Means Something” monument.

The kids helped me begin with paper mache and chicken wire.  I wound up finishing the modeling by myself because Lainey and Paul just didn’t like having messy hands.

But they did do all the painting.  They even mixed the paint themselves. We only had orange, green, yellow and two shades of blue to work with.   But they still came up with several shades of brown.

Patrick Ender explains what a good job his brother and sister are doing on the painting.

The final product will live in turn #1 of the top-shelf line that will run around the den.

Next it was time to build the Top Shelf Line.
